August
3-9, Tall Ships Chicago returns as the final stop of
the ASTA 2006 Tall Ships Challenge. The 2006 Challenge
is being staged on the Great Lakes as an opportunity
for young sailors to gain experience and to teach the
public about wind-powered sail boats and tall ships.
At
the week long event, the ships will open for boarding
and tours, providing a firsthand learning environment.
Sailboats and tall ships are as rich in history as
they are majestic in appearance. The sail training
crews of the tall ships fleet will be on hand to answer
your questions about the process of sailing, the history
of talls, and the experience of sail boat touring and
operation.
Don't
forget all the great land events taking place in Navy
Pier. In addition to the year-round excitement of the
pier, live entertainment will be taking place on stages
throughout the event. And there's sure to be plenty
of food around. Stay late on Saturday, Aug 5 and Wednesday,
Aug 9 for fireworks.
Come
on down to DuSable Harbor on the Chicago River for
2006 Tall Ships Chicago.
